Multimedia service- Post by Lynly Grider

Wednesday morning we spent a few hours at the Regional Food Bank. We packed boxes (and boxes, and boxes) of food to ship out to various agencies. The Food Bank ships these boxes out to agencies like shelters and pantries, who purchase the boxes to stock their businesses. Some of us sorted the food, some of us boxed the food, and some of us moved the finished boxes onto pallets to move into storage. In the end, we completed a total of 760 boxes at 20 lbs each. The total weight we moved was 15, 200 lbs! That much food will help create 11,692 meals! We were pleased to hear these numbers and the staff was grateful for our service.

Wednesday afternoon we wound our way down to Washington, OK. The First Baptist Church there was heading up tornado relief efforts in the area. We split up in two groups, loaded up large ice chests of Gatorade, and drove around looking for people working on their land to clear the debris. We probably passed out 50+ bottles of Gatorade. One group that we encountered told us that they had just been looking for some water, then we showed up. They knew God had heard their need and sent us to them. We found another family who was very much in despair. There was nothing left of their house at all. They were so grateful for what we were doing. When we told them we were from the city and that we were working with a church they knew, they were blown away. The devastation was unreal and humbling. We were honored to be able to help in some way.

I want to thank everyone for working with a willing heart to serve our community. We are blessed to have the jobs we have, that provide for us and our families. The least we can do is help others in need.

Tate Design team community project!

The designers worked with the Tapestry Project (http://www.thetapestryproject.org/) to help organize their clothing rooms. When we arrived, the rooms needed a lot of organization, and donations needed to be sorted. By the time we were finished working our design and organizational magic, the rooms were neat and organized. The Tapestry Project allows people from the neighborhood to come in and choose three outfits for each family member for free. This is a wonderful service for people who are wanting to go to job interviews or who have children that are in need of clothing. Tapestry does a lot of great work in this area – check out their website!

Tate Publishing Print Shop donates a pallet of paper to local school!

Right before the winter storm of 2011 hit, the Tate Publishing print shop donated and delivered an entire pallet of paper to a local school. With school budgets being cut every year, schools are in need now more than ever for the community to step up. Tate's donation should help them keep in line with their budget for this school year!

3/2/11 An update to this post- this week we received 400 thank you cards created by the wonderful students at Lakehoma Elementary!

Tate Publishing Illustration team gets involved with the local community!

Each spring and fall, departments from Tate Publishing will get together and decide on a community service project they would like to sponsor. Spring is still around the corner, but the Tate Illustrators are on the ball and have already donated their time and illustration skills to a local church who was in need of an upgraded look to their baptismal, and a killer logo for their youth room. Check out their progress below!
